Graham Taylor says that he would be willing to take up the England role if offered. I have always been passionate about the England football team. I did play for the England schoolboys senior side and the FA youth XI.

But when I became a professional and realised I wasn’t going to play for the senior England side and then went into management, becoming England manager meant everything to me.

I got that job in 1990 and at times I wish it had come later, but you can’t dictate when the England job is offered to you. I did it until 1993 and wasn’t successful. The criticism and abuse was intense.

Kaka will tell you that the reason Brazil do so well is because of the togetherness they create at the national set up. We need more of that in England.
