Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Marcus Rashford can reach the heights of Harry Kane

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Marcus Rashford has the potential required to reach the heights of England captain Harry Kane. The 21-year-old had been in-and-out of the starting lineup under ex-boss Jose Mourinho but his position has changed under Ole, who has offered him the chance to regularly lead the line.

Speaking to reporters, Ole talked up the qualities of the United graduate and stressed that the youngster has the attributes required to become a ‘top, top’ striker, he told MUTV: “He can become a top, top striker. We can talk about Harry Kane and his class, I’m sure Marcus has got the potential to get up there.

“He’s got frightening pace, he’s now become stronger and can hold the ball up for us. He’s a great link player. He’s been brought up here and there were a couple of sessions (in Dubai) with the young kids, (Tahith) Chong, Angel (Gomes) and Jesse (Lingard), where they play together in a certain way. “He’s a very exciting player to work with.”

“Rashford has recently been favoured ahead of Romelu Lukaku to lead the line in the Premier League“and he has met the expectations with three goals from four appearances under Ole. As such, he should retain his position for the upcoming league clash at Tottenham Hotspur which “may hold huge significance“ in the race for the top four this term.

United are currently six points behind Chelsea in the pursuit of the final Champions League spot and the forthcoming Spurs clash requires them to secure a victory or else the gap could further extend. The Old Trafford outfit have not recently enjoyed success against Spurs with back-to-back league defeats but they should be aiming to make amends with the renewed confidence brought about under their interim head coach.
