England manager Roy Hodgson has said that he is extremely confident that the Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney can be even more beneficial to the team if he is used in a deeper role.

The 26-year-old striker is regarded as one of the best in the world when it comes to finishing. However, he has had a poor record when it comes to performing for the England national team. He recently scored his first goal in a major tournament after a gap of eight years.

England were once again eliminated in the quarter-final stage at a major tournament after losing on penalties to Italy, who went on to reach the final of the competition.

END OF THE ROAD

Rio Ferdinand’s omission from England’s Euro 2012 squad appears to have signalled the end of his international career.

He described his reaction to the blow as being “gutted”, but went on to wish the England side well in the tournament. He spoke about representing England in the past tense giving strong indications that his international days are behind him.

Ferdinand has been included in England’s last four World Cup squads was left out of Hodgson’s first squad and will now end his career having never played in a European Championships.

SHEARER BACKS ENGLAND

Former England striker Alan Shearer has said that he is hoping that England will perform well at the Euro 2012 and possibly win the tournament due to the fact that there is absolutely no expectation of the team.

Former Real Madrid manager Fabio Capello handed his resignation from the England managerial post a few weeks ago. After looking at various options, the England FA recently appointed former Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson until 2016. Yet, there has not been a lot of talk surrounding England winning the Euro 2012, which has led to a different atmosphere within the England camp.

Former England manager Fabio Capello has often not selected Peter Crouch while he was the England manager. However, it is expected that the former Tottenham striker will get a look in under new manager Roy Hodgson.

ENGLAND SET FOR NEW MANAGER

The English football Association is finally all set to make its offer for the right candidate to take over the national team manager of England.

The position has been vacant since the departure of Fabio Capello more than a month ago. Initially, it was expected that Harry Redknapp would take over as the England manager. However, inconclusive remarks by the Tottenham manager has meant that the English FA had to postpone their appointment of the next manager.

PARKER SUPPORTED BY TEAM-MATES
